Why Choose A Laptop Over A Desktop

By Andrew Johnson

The laptop has all its components within the one case that resembles a flat box, whereas the desktop has several separate components. The laptop is flexible because it can be used with a mains electricity cable or with its rechargeable battery which allows several hours of use before it has to be plugged into the mains for recharging.

Many laptops offer the same capabilities of the desktop, but perhaps with smaller memories. But with the capabilities of the memory sticks on the market, running out of space should never be a problem if good house keeping practices are maintained.

The size and portability of the laptop is a major benefit. It is easy to carry and can be operated using battery power which is a big improvement on the much larger space guzzling desktop PC with all its various bits. It refuses to work unless its plugged into the mains power and can be seriously heavy to move around.

Carrying a laptop around can be a major benefit to business people who require instant access from anywhere to information either on the internet or in their own files. It removes the need to keep phoning the office to have someone look up the information. Or not being able to keep up with the latest changes in the stock market, or deal with other business issues which requires up to date information.

Information collected during market research interviews or any other type of meeting can be recorded directly into the computer memory. This greatly improves the reliability of the information as there is less chance of errors being made, than used to be the case when transcribing written notes.

They are a benefit for students who can now record their notes directly onto the laptop, instead of having to struggle to write notes and then decipher then later when transcribing them into a format for studying.

The benefits to ensuring passengers can use their laptops for work or leisure while travelling has been recognised by the transport industry section. Facilities are available for people to use their laptops whether they are flying, going by bus, or travelling on the train.

Technology is continually developing smaller and more powerful laptops. The prices can vary greatly, but a good reliable model with the ability to do the same job as a desktop computer will probably cost a lot less than the desktop.
